RISING STRONG OUT OF GRIEF

One Step at a Time

This art installation is a memorial to all those who have lost their lives in this pandemic and provides a focal point for those who have survived them to come and share the grief journey. Some have suffered the pain associated with the death of a loved one, others have suffered other losses, for many, this has included the loss of a way of life.  As you have made the choice to come and join others in facing the reality of what has been lost and have the courage to begin to face what that means going forward, we hope you find that connecting and identifying with others helps the healing process.

Having taken a moment to breathe and take stock of and acknowledge what you have lost, the next part of the journey is when you realise there is nothing you can do to change the past and are willing to contemplate accepting it and letting go.

As we process loss there are things which we realise we are ready to let go of and there are things we absolutely feel we can’t let go of. You will know the time that is right for you. This is your journey for your health and well-being and in honouring what has been lost, what you have learned and in acknowledging the strength you have had to have in order to face these things, you give yourself the chance to rise strong.

A moment to reflect

You might like to take a moment now to look around the garden of remembrance. Each name etched into stone not only honours those who have passed but those who lived on, those who would not have chosen the path that life brought them and yet, through our common humanity, chose life and chose to take one step at a time on their own journey.

As you pause to reflect on what has changed for you, are there moments of love, of celebration, of laughter, of tears or of dreams that are precious memories for you. Take a moment to call these times to mind and notice your feelings and what is important to you about these memories.

Now bringing your attention to your heart, keep your focus here and as you breath in…and out…bring the memories into your heart that are important to you and you may find, if you want to, that there are things you are grateful for, things you have learned or gained from these times.

When you are finished. Take a couple of breaths and pause for a moment.

When you are ready, you can move on to
